It all started in Frederikshavn in Northern Jutland back in 1899. A fisherman called I. A. Larsen, who after simply selling his catch every day for years realised he could add value by starting up his own processing business. The development went from fishery to export and in the 1960s to also include production of processed fish.
Today, Larsen Seafood employs around 200 people in Germany, where the two production facilities are located. Since 2015 LARSEN belongs to the company "Christian i Grotinum" (CiG) from the Faroe Islands. A family-run company from the fish industry which has invested permanently in the expansion of the company and therefore "Larsen" has the following core elements within the group:
- Own catch quotas
- 2 modern factory ships
- Own Freezing Warehouse
- Own production companies (Harrislee + Bremerhaven in Germany)
- Own sales organization
- LARSEN brand
We process mainly fish from Nordic waters, such as mackerel, herring and salmon. Today we export to most of Europe and more than 30 countries around the globe.
The value chain, from being involved in catching the fish, with great understanding and focus on quality and the process, into processing, is today still one of our most valued competences and one we take great pride in.
We want to be the leading European seafood company delivering healthy, innovative consumer-friendly quality products.

We catch most of the raw material with our own vessels inside the group. Thus we guarantee outstanding quality, freshness and traceability of our products and demonstrating we are a reliable and competent partner for seafood and fresh products.
We have received multiple Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certifications that confirm our commitment to a sustainable fishery. Consumers and purchasers of fish and seafood throughout the world rely on this seal of quality. We are one of the leading providers of fish species from sustainable sources.
Sustainability is also important to us for fish which comes from aquacultures. Consequently, we welcome the move to effective certification planned for this area.
We offer our customers the greatest possible transparency: Most of our products already have precise designations, such as: Origin of the fish, catch method, Latin name.
Over the last few years we won many awards for our products and their innovative and convenient packaging solutions. These awards confirm that the added value we offer our customers is moving in the right direction.
